How to play Car Race
Car Race is an endless top-down driving game. Your lime-green car speeds along a four-lane road at night. Slower cars, vans and trucks fill the lanes ahead. Weave between them, pick up coins and fuel, and see how far you can go. The road gets faster the longer you drive.
Goal
Score as many points as you can. You earn 1 point for every metre you drive, 10 points for each coin and 15 points for every close pass, when you overtake a car right next to it. Your best score for each traffic level is saved in this browser.
Controls
- Press the Left and Right arrows (or A and D) to steer. You can drive anywhere across the road, not only in the middle of a lane.
- Hold the Up arrow (or W) to speed up, and the Down arrow (or S) to brake. Speeding up burns more fuel.
- On a phone, drag your finger left or right on the road and the car follows it. You can also use the buttons under the road.
- Press Space or P to pause. The game also pauses when you switch tabs.
Fuel and traffic
The gauge at the top left shows your fuel. It drains all the time. Drive over a green fuel can to refill part of the tank. Cars sometimes change lanes, but they always flash their indicators first. Touching the kerb slows you down, but does not end the run.
End of the game
The run ends when you hit another vehicle, or when your tank runs dry and the car rolls to a stop. Pick Easy, Medium or Hard traffic to change the starting speed, the number of cars and how fast fuel burns. Want another endless run? Try Desert Runner.
Strategy tips
- Look far ahead. Watch the top of the road, not your own car. Pick the open lane early, before you need it.
- Stay near the middle. From the two centre lanes you can dodge either way. In an outside lane you only have one way out.
- Plan your fuel. When the gauge is under half, take the fuel can even if it means skipping a line of coins.
- Brake to make room. A short tap on brake lets a gap open up beside you. It costs a few metres but saves the run.
- Earn close passes on easy cars. Slide right past slow cars on a quiet stretch for extra points, but never risk it when traffic is heavy.
Car Race FAQ
How is the score counted?
One point for every metre you drive, 10 points per coin and 15 points for every close pass. Driving faster adds metres more quickly, so the score climbs faster too.
Why did my car slow down and stop?
Your fuel ran out. The fuel gauge drains while you drive, faster when you speed up. Collect the green fuel cans to refill it.
Can I play on a phone?
Yes. Drag left or right on the road to steer, or use the arrow buttons under it. The up and down buttons speed up and brake.
What changes between Easy, Medium and Hard?
Harder traffic starts faster, sends more cars, lets cars change lanes more often and burns fuel more quickly. Each level keeps its own best score.
