Pour coloured water between tubes until each tube holds one colour.

How to play Water Sort

Water Sort is a calm sorting puzzle. You see a row of glass tubes filled with layers of coloured water, plus two empty tubes. Each tube holds four layers.

Goal

Sort the water so that every full tube holds only one colour. A finished tube gets a gold cap. The level is solved when all colours are sorted.

Turn by turn

  1. Tap a tube to pick it up. It lifts a little.
  2. Tap another tube to pour into it. The water at the top of the first tube flows into the second one.
  3. You can only pour onto the same colour, or into an empty tube.
  4. All layers of that colour on top pour together, as long as there is room. If the target tube fills up, the rest stays behind.
  5. A tube can never hold more than four layers.

Helpers

Press Undo to take back pours one by one, or Restart to try the level again. Hint lights up a good next pour. Once per level you can add an empty tube, which gives you more room when you are stuck. Every puzzle is checked by a solver before you play it, so each level can be solved with the two empty tubes alone.

Keyboard

Move between tubes with the arrow keys, then press Enter or Space to pick up a tube and again on the tube you want to pour into. Escape puts the tube back down.

Levels

There are 60 levels. The first ones use three colours; later ones have up to twelve colours and fourteen tubes. Your best move count for each level is saved, and solved levels get a check mark. For another calm puzzle, try Number Link.

Strategy tips

  • Keep an empty tube. An empty tube is your most useful tool. Fill it only when it brings a colour closer to done.
  • Look before you pour. Check which colours sit just under the top layers. Free the colour that appears most near the tops.
  • Stack on matching tops. Pouring onto the same colour costs no space. Prefer that over using an empty tube.
  • Finish tubes early. A completed tube is out of the way. Every finished colour makes the rest easier.
  • Use the extra tube late. Save the add-tube helper for when you are truly stuck. Undo a few pours first and look for a better order.

Water Sort FAQ

Can every level be solved?

Yes. Each puzzle is made by the game and kept only if a solver can finish it using the two empty tubes, without the extra tube.

What does the add-tube button do?

It adds one more empty tube to the level. You can use it once per level, and it stays even if you undo moves.

Why can't I pour into a tube?

The top colours must match, or the target tube must be empty, and the target must have free space. Full tubes cannot take more water.

Is this like ball sort puzzles?

Yes, the rules are almost the same as ball sort and colour sort games, but with water layers that pour together.
