How to play TriPeaks Solitaire

TriPeaks is a fast solitaire game played with one deck of 52 cards. Twenty-eight cards are dealt into three overlapping peaks. The bottom row of ten cards is face up and the rest are face down. Under the peaks you find the stock and one face-up card on the waste pile.

Goal

Move all 28 peak cards onto the waste pile and clear all three peaks.

Turn by turn

  1. Look at the top card of the waste. You may play any face-up peak card that is one rank higher or one rank lower. Suits and colours do not matter. On a 7 you can play a 6 or an 8.
  2. Ranks go round the corner: a King and an Ace are next to each other, so you can play an Ace on a King or a King on an Ace.
  3. The played card becomes the new top of the waste, so you can keep going: 7, 8, 9, 8, 7 and so on. This is called a streak.
  4. A face-down card turns over as soon as both cards that cover it are gone.
  5. When you cannot play, tap the stock to turn a new card onto the waste. The stock is used only once.

Scoring

The first card of a streak scores 1 point, the second 2 points, the third 3 points and so on. Turning a card from the stock ends the streak. Clearing the top of a peak gives a bonus of 15 points, and clearing the last peak gives 30.

Playing on this site

Tap a card to play it, or drag it onto the waste. Tap the stock to draw. Hint uses a solver to show a move that still leads to a win when one exists. Undo has no limit. With Winnable deals every new deal is checked first, so it can always be cleared.

End of the game

You win when all three peaks are gone. If the stock is empty and no card can be played, the game is over and your score stays.

Strategy tips

  • Plan the longest run. Before you play, look for the chain that uses the most cards. Going up and then down again often clears more than a straight line.
  • Free face-down cards first. When you can choose between two cards of the same rank, play the one that turns over a hidden card.
  • Think about the next waste card. The card you play becomes the new target. Leave yourself a card that has partners on the table.
  • Don't rush to the stock. Each draw ends your streak. Make sure there is really nothing left to play first.
  • Work on all three peaks. Cards hidden in one peak may be the ones you need for another. Opening every peak gives you more choices.

TriPeaks Solitaire FAQ

Can I play a King on an Ace in TriPeaks?

Yes. In TriPeaks the ranks wrap around, so a King and an Ace count as next to each other. You can play either one on the other.

Do suits matter in TriPeaks Solitaire?

No. Only the rank counts. Any card that is one higher or one lower than the waste card can be played, whatever its suit or colour.

Is every TriPeaks deal winnable?

Most deals are, but not all. Choose Winnable deals and every new game is first solved by the computer, so you know a full clear is possible.

How is the score counted?

Each card in a streak scores one point more than the last one, starting at 1. Drawing from the stock starts a new streak. Peak tops give a 15 point bonus, and the last peak gives 30.
